two posts in one day

Happy Friday everyone!
I thought I had posted on Monday (which I had but it never actually posted on my blog) so I am doing two posts in one day!
It's been a lovely but very busy week here in London! My semester at school is starting to wind down so I've had a lot of reading to do. I also worked two days this week at the lovely school I posted about a couple weeks ago. I can't remember if I said this before, but the school really likes me and requested me to be called whenever they need a supply teacher! It's so nice...the kids there are so sweet. I get lots of hugs in the hallways and lots of smiles while I'm there. :) It makes me feel like I'm back at Dilworth or Lansdowne with my sweet students!
It's been a gorgeous couple days here in London too. Its cold but really sunny! I'm hoping it lasts through the weekend because there are so many fabulous things to do outside here. One great thing is the "Winter Wonderland" in Hyde Park. Its supposed to be amazing so I'm hoping I can get there on Sunday!
Less than three weeks until I'm home for Christmas. I am so excited about seeing my family and friends back home and having some good ol' southern cooking!! :)
Lots of love,
Kristen

A Christmas-y weekend

This weekend got me in the Christmas mood! I was supposed to go to a friends today for a big thanksgiving dinner but sadly, it didn't happen. I'm really hoping to get some stuffing and green bean casserole when I'm home for Christmas (wink wink momma! 😃)

On Friday night I went to Covent Garden with my friend Elaine to see Matilda the Musical. It was fantastic! While we were in central London, we got to see some beautiful Christmas lights.

Yesterday, I went to St. Albans to visit Andrea and her hubby James. It was a rainy day but the decorations were out and I loved it.

I decorated my own Christmas tree today! I made a little mulled wine and decorated while listening to Christmas music. It was lovely. I'm getting very excited about being in Charlotte in less than a month!

Lots of love,
Kristen

A London Thanksgiving

Yesterday wasn't a typical Thanksgiving for me (as I'm sure you guessed!) I worked all day but felt sick on and off throughout the day (don't worry about me though - I think it was just a little stomach bug!).
I was feeling much better by about 4:00 which was great because Jen and I had planned on grabbing dinner weeks ago. We went to a pub/restaurant called The Queens Arms in a neighborhood called Pimlico. We both had a delicious dinner. I ate a yummy pie that was filled with all sorts of veggies. It tasted like thanksgiving! Then Jennifer surprised me with a pumpkin pie!! I was so excited that I almost cried! After a bad day and feeling especially homesick it was exactly what I needed. I'm so thankful for such a wonderful friend.

facebook

I can't believe I am saying this BUT I am back on Facebook. If you read my blog and want to keep up with me on Facebook, find me on there! I think I've made it really private but you should still be able to find me.
I got back on because it's so hard keeping up with peoples lives just through email and the occasional skype. I really miss everyone and want to see what you guys are up to!

the bus and a lovely school

I worked on Monday and Tuesday at a lovely school that was impossible to get to by the "tube". So I ventured off into the world of the bus. Loads of people take the bus here in London. You see the famous double-decker red buses everywhere you look in the city. I thought it would be easy to figure it out, and after getting on TWO wrong buses, I finally figured it out! What a way to start a Monday morning. I've got it figured out now and sometimes, taking the bus is A LOT quicker and easier than taking the tube.

Anyways, I worked Monday and Tuesday at a great primary school. Last Tuesday and Friday, I worked at a school that's very close to my flat but I had some MAJOR behavior issues in both classes. By Friday afternoon, I was exhausted and feeling pretty down about my job. But this week really turned me around and encouraged me. I loved the school and they loved me to and asked me to come back already! This is the great part about my job...I can find schools I really love, put my best foot forward, and hope they love me to so I can continue going back!

And on a different note, I am off work for the rest of the week and think I'm going to buy and decorate a Christmas tree! :-) I'll post pictures soon.

Lots of Love,
Kristen

Chilly in London

Good morning!
It's been a busy week for me here in London. I worked two days (Tuesday and Friday) this week at a local primary school in my neighborhood of Cricklewood. The school was so cute! It was built in 1907 so it had all these secret stairways and doors. I could tell the kids loved their school.
I definitely miss having my own class and a group of kids I can be with every day. It's hard doing supply work because you don't know the kids and they don't know you. The older kids really try to take advantage of you and it's a battle all day to maintain control. It is a great job and I'm lucky to have it though! I'll be excited when I have my own class again.
I've heard it's gotten chilly in Charlotte and not surprisingly, it's very cold here! Luckily it hasn't been raining at all this week so it's been sunny and chilly! I love it!
I'm looking forward to a lazy and relaxing weekend. It was a busy week!
I miss everyone so much. I'm very excited to come home from Christmas! Lots of love,
Kristen

Settled

This week I've had a break from my job (called half term), so I spent some time getting settled into my new flat. I'm posting pictures of what I've done so far. :-)

Halloween and a visit to the doctor

Let me start this post by saying that Halloween in London is nothing like Halloween in the US. I've always loved Halloween...dressing up, trick or treating, going out with friends. But this year was a little bit different. On Saturday night, my dear friend Jennifer and her roommates threw an "American" Halloween party. (Jennifer is one of my best friends from UNCW and lives in London). It was a great party - lots of really nice people and lots of food and fun! I'll post a couple pictures of me and friends down below! :-)

On Monday night I felt awful. I barely slept so on Tuesday morning I decided to go to the doctor. I'm sure a lot of you know this, but healthcare is free in the UK and is run by the NHS. I was a bit weary of going to the doctor only because I wasn't sure what to expect! Well I got to my local doctors office on Tuesday morning at 8 and was told no doctor was there yet (I guess doctors are late for work sometimes too) and I'd need to come back a few hours later. So I went back and still no doctor. But luckily nurses here are able to provide medication and diagnose. I got some antibiotics and now I'm feel 100 times better than I was!

This Saturday, I'm heading to St Albans (a town north of London) to go to a Bonfire Night festival. Bonfire night is a celebration of Guy Fawkes Day (yes the guy who tried to blow up parliament hundreds of years ago). If you don't now anything about this, look it up. Supposedly it's like 4th of July in the US! I'll try to get some good pictures so I can post then next week.

Until then, lots of love :-)
