a weekend in yorkshire

A few weeks ago, we spent the weekend in the Yorkshire Dales for our friend's wedding. I hadn't been to Yorkshire, but everyone I spoke to kept telling me how beautiful it is. Well they weren't lying…I was completely blown away at the gorgeous scenery. Add a really fun wedding and it was pretty much the perfect weekend!

We arrived late Friday night, after sitting in traffic for nearly 9 hours on the M1! So it was straight to bed we all went, and up early the next morning to do some exploring of the Yorkshire Dales. We stayed in Skipton in a gorgeous cottage so we were a quick drive into the parks. We went straight to Bolton Abbey to explore the ruins and walk around by the river. We skipped stones, walked across the river's stepping stones and checked out the views.

When it started pouring rain, and we ran to seek shelter at The Devonshire Arms. We all sat in the cocktail lounge and had afternoon tea (which I would highly recommend). That evening we relaxed at the cottage by the fire and watched a movie.

The wedding was on Sunday, and luckily the weather was absolutely beautiful! It was a proper British wedding which lasted all day and well into the night. It started at 2 with a ceremony at a church was, according to the minister, around 1,000 years old. Afterwards, we made our way up to their family's farm where the reception was taking place. They had a massive tent which was decorated beautifully. First was cocktails, then dinner and speeches. This was all followed by a Ceilidh (a traditional Scottish dance) and then the band. It all ended around 1am and I was so tired! I couldn't have asked for a better 'first British wedding' experience though!
