Well last weekend felt like one of those weekends where all I did was eat. I guess I was stretching my stomach out for a week in Sicily (more on that later!).
My friend Alex and her husband Mark live in Dalston and invited a group of us to the Dalston Street Feast on Friday night. It is held over the summer months, every weekend for 14 weeks. There's tons of options from different vendors and truly, you can't go wrong with anything you get. They also have a few rad bards set up (one specifically dedicated to Gin cocktails - hello british summer!). Adam and I love a good street food market, so we clearly had to try as much as we could bear. We started with Mac & Cheese (Kanye West style - hot dogs, BBQ sauce). It was heaven in my mouth. It's hard to find good mac & cheese in London, people. Then we grabbed a slow roasted short rib 'bun' (aka a fancy sandwich) while we waited for our Korean burrito to be made. That's right…I just said Korean burrito. My friends, this is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Slow cooked porker, kimchee, spicy rice, salty cheese, red cabbage, guacamole, all wrapped in a tortilla. Adam was still hungry after all of that, so he tried a crab roll which was, of course, incredible. I was completely stuffed after all that good food. I'll definitely be going back again this summer. On Saturday morning, Ali, Paul and myself all went to brunch at Le Blue Legume on Upper Street in Islington. I was still pretty full from the night before, but I was able to scarf down some scrambled eggs on a croissant. I will definitely be going back here for breakfast again! We walked through Islington to their new flat (yay for the new homeowners!) and made our way through Camden Passage and the market.
On Saturday night, Adam and I tried out a restaurant that's been on my 'list' for quite a while. It's called Salt Yard and it's off Goodge Street. The menu is tapas style with loads of delicious and unique options. My personal favorites were the chorizo and the courgette (zucchini) flower with goat's cheese.
On Sunday, I chilled out on the eating and got ready for my trip to Sicily…I'll be posting about that later this week. Get ready for lots of pictures of gorgeous beaches, delicious food, and amazing scenery.
xx
